FEPS condemns the Russian attacks on Ukraine and stands in solidarity with the Ukrainian people

With the dreadful news reaching us from the war in Ukraine, FEPS ExCo cannot remain silent.  FEPS is a pan-European, scientific organization, dedicated to promoting physiology and science as a way of supporting and improving human life. Working with our national societies, we know that this aim can only be reached through combined global efforts that put scientific collaboration above politics and national interests. As scientists, however, we are always obliged to seek and report the truth, and we therefore raise our voices against this unprovoked invasion of Ukraine by Russia.
As a European organization, FEPS stands committed to human rights, equality, and social justice within and beyond Europe. We believe this view is shared by many of our colleagues in Russia. We fully respect the arguments of fellow societies and individuals, which have resulted in withdrawal of support and collaborations with Russian scientists and organizations.  However, FEPS, as an apolitical pan-European organization, cannot be aligned with those organisations in stalling international exchange.
We hope that with our unified voices of protest, we can all contribute to efforts to stop this war.
Professor Susan Wray – FEPS President on behalf of the FEPS Executive Committee
